A Way Forward
Nations are not condemned to continue down the same path forever. They can change course. They can acknowledge past mistakes, pursue reconciliation, and choose a better future.
If Israel is to regain the moral authority it once enjoyed, it must take a more righteous path. That path begins with respecting the human dignity of Palestinians, pursuing genuine peace with its neighbors, and abandoning policies rooted in domination, expansion, and perpetual conflict.
Many Christians believe that blessing Israel is a biblical obligation. But blessing someone does not mean enabling destructive behavior. A true friend does not remain silent when someone is going astray. Sometimes the most loving response is honest criticism, accountability, and a willingness to encourage a better path.
Can we realistically expect lasting peace while territorial expansion, displacement, and settlement building continue?
For decades, the United States has provided Israel with extraordinary aid, weapons, diplomatic protection, and political support. Yet peace remains elusive. If this support is facilitating violent expansion and displacement rather than encouraging reconciliation, justice, and lasting peace, Christians should be willing to ask whether it is time for a different approach.
Ending extraordinary American support may ultimately prove to be the more effective way to “bless” Israel and produce the peace, justice, and security we seek.
The question goes beyond politics and foreign policy. What was the purpose of returning to the Jewish homeland in the first place? Was it merely to acquire territory and power? Or was it to restore a people, a faith, and a spiritual presence in the land from which they came?
Some Christians believe they should help bring about biblical prophecy by supporting Israeli territorial expansion and conflict. But Christians are called to follow Jesus, not to force God’s timetable. God doesn’t need our help fulfilling His promises. If God’s plan is true, it will unfold in His time, not ours. Our calling is to pursue justice, mercy, and peace, not to encourage war or displacement in an attempt to hasten prophecy.
Jerusalem occupies a unique place in the hearts of Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike. Rather than remaining a symbol of division and conflict, it can become a beacon of peace, justice, and reconciliation for the entire region.
Would Jesus support another generation of bloodshed, or would He call us to seek a just and lasting peace for everyone who calls the Holy Land home?
Such a peace would benefit everyone. Palestinians would gain freedom and dignity. Israelis would gain security, legitimacy, and acceptance throughout the region. Americans would be relieved of enormous financial, military, and political burdens. The Middle East could begin moving beyond a conflict that has consumed generations.
The way forward is not found in domination, fear, or endless conflict. It is found in a righteous path toward a just and lasting peace.
